Alicia Penalba
Alicia Penalba (1913-1982) was an Argentine sculptor who settled in Paris in 1948, where she studied under Ossip Zadkine. Her mature work, often called liturgies végétales, consists of vertical, winged and totemic forms in bronze, stone and plaster, suggesting plants and organic growth. She exhibited widely in Europe and the Americas. Collectors seek her bronzes for their sense of upward movement and the warm, carefully worked patinas.
