René Herbst
René Herbst (1891-1982) was a French architect and designer and a founding member of the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM) in 1929. He was a pioneer of tubular steel furniture, notably the Sandows chair, with elastic cords stretched across a chromed metal frame. He ran his own manufacturing firm, Établissements René Herbst. Collectors seek his early furniture for its radical modernism and its historical importance.
