Maxime Old

French designer (1910-1991) who trained at the École Boulle and in the studio of Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann before founding his own practice. He carried the rigour of French cabinetmaking into the postwar era with furniture in fine woods such as rosewood and sycamore, often with metal details, and designed interiors for the liner France. Collectors value his impeccable execution and elegant, pared-down forms.
