Joaquim Tenreiro
Born in Portugal in 1906, Joaquim Tenreiro settled in Brazil in 1928 and opened his own workshop in Rio de Janeiro in 1942, becoming a founder of modern Brazilian furniture. He favoured jacaranda, imbuia and other native woods, often with cane seats, as in his light armchair of 1942 and his three-legged chair. He later devoted himself to sculpture. Collectors value documented pieces and exceptional joinery.
