Jean Lurçat
Jean Lurçat (1892-1966) was a French painter and ceramist, known above all for the renewal of tapestry in the twentieth century. Working with the Aubusson workshops from the late 1930s, he developed a vivid, symbolic language of suns, stars, animals and plants on dark grounds, culminating in the Chant du Monde cycle in Angers. He also designed ceramics. Collectors seek signed tapestries with documented weaving and good colour.
