Aubusson Manufacture
Aubusson, in the Creuse region of France, has been a centre of tapestry and carpet weaving for several centuries, and its craft is recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. In the twentieth century the looms were revived by Jean Lurçat and the painters who worked with him, who created bold cartoons for modern wall hangings. Collectors look for signed and numbered weavings with their bolduc, the workshop label that records artist, weaver and edition.
