André Groult
French decorator André Groult (1884-1966) was among the most refined figures of Art Deco. Working in close dialogue with painters, notably Marie Laurencin, he favoured precious finishes such as shagreen, ivory and fine veneers on softly swelling forms. His shagreen-covered anthropomorphic chiffonier, shown in the Chambre de Madame at the 1925 Paris Exposition, remains his best-known work. Collectors seek signed pieces with intact shagreen and documented provenance.
