The piece is composed of an assemblage of rectangle shaped metal pieces, patinated with bronze and silver coating, assembled to create an highly expressive interplay of volumes and shadows, characteristic of the artist’s work. The composition, raw yet very balanced, evokes a mineral and organic architecture in which each element appears precisely interlocked. The surface treatment, marked by a warm and nuanced patina, emphasizes the raw strength and material presence of the object. Signed by the artist, this wall light is electrified and preserved in very fine original condition. Positioned halfway between wall sculpture and lighting fixture, it stands as a strong decorative work, both graphic and timeless, bearing witness to a free and deeply sensitive approach to metal sculpture.

Auguste Fix (1925–2000) was a singular artist and a pioneer of post-war French mountaineering, closely associated with major figures such as Pierre Allain, René Ferlet and Guido Magnone. A climber of the highest level, he notably took part in the first ascent of the west face of the Aiguille de Blaitière in 1948, before a serious accident prematurely ended his alpinist career. Forced to reinvent himself, he then turned to metal sculpture, producing works of remarkable strength and originality. Deeply informed by his love of the mountains, his work translates the rhythms, textures and tensions of alpine landscapes into raw metal. From the 1960s onward, his works were presented in Parisian galleries alongside artists of the artisanal avant-garde. It perfectly illustrates Japanese minimalism, balancing geometric precision with a poetic approach to space. Each piece features a square white-painted metal structure, covered with a stretched white fabric that softens the light, giving the lamps a diffuse and enveloping presence. Inspired by traditional Japanese washi paper screens and shōji, the design allows a natural light to filter through, recalling the atmosphere of traditional interiors. The fabric intentionally displays subtle folds, drawing from the origin of the name Saori, which refers to a Japanese free-form weaving technique favoring freedom of movement, intuition and expression. This choice reveals the designer’s intention to conceive the wall light not as a static object, but as a living surface, where light interacts with the material. It is precisely within this dialogue between geometric discipline and the material’s inherent irregularities that the beauty of Takahama’s work resides. This model can be used either as a wall light or as a ceiling fixture, offering great freedom of use and versatility.

We have six pieces on inventory, all fully restored, fabric replaced with the exact same off-white stretched fabric, rewired, and ready to use.

Kazuhide Takahama (1930–2010) was a Japanese architect and designer. He was trained in architecture and design at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in a context shaped by post-war reconstruction and a profound reflection on function, sobriety, and the standardisation of forms. He came to prominence at the Milan Triennale in 1957, where he designed the Japanese Pavilion, an event that marked a decisive turning point in his career. It was there that he met Dino Gavina, initiating a long-standing collaboration. After settling in Bologna in 1963, Takahama went on to design throughout the 1960s and 1970s for Gavina, as well as for other major Italian editors such as Sirrah and B&B Italia. He developed a distinctive language by embracing the codes of Western modernism while preserving a poetic minimalism deeply rooted in Japanese culture. His work extended beyond furniture and lighting to include architectural projects and interior spatial designs. Through his creations, Takahama explored the balance between light, material, and form, endowing each object with a presence that is both functional and contemplative. He is today recognised as a key figure in international design, having reinterpreted the legacy of occidental modernism through a Japanese sensibility defined by discipline, clarity, and restraint.

Dimensions :

Width : 62 cm
Depth : 20 cm
Height : 62 cm
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1037/6236/2709/files/Kazuhide_Takahama_Set_of_six_Saori_wall_lights_1970_1_cafc1e56-1d68-4cb2-8853-d2264331e2f2.jpg?v=1775560196
jacques-adnet-wrought-iron-leather-and-brass-wall-lights-1950
Jacques Adnet, Wall Lights, wrought iron, leather and brass, 1950

Beautiful pair of sconces in wrought iron and black leather piqué sellier by Jacques Adnet dating from the early 1950s. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and from an early age was interested in Art Deco modernism, a movement that rejected the excessive ornamentation of Art Nouveau and advocated simple, functional lines. In the 1920s, he founded a company with his twin brother, Jean Adnet, where they created furniture using simple geometric shapes and high-quality materials. In 1928, he was appointed director of the Compagnie des Arts Français (CAF), and helped the institution adopt a contemporary approach. His designs combined industrial materials, such as glass and metal, with simple, clean lines. The structure is made of aged bronze patina metal, with special vinyl shades mimicking the crystal. They are adjustable, and can rotate on their axis. These sconces are emblematic of Mattia Bonetti’s commitment to avant-garde, romantic style, always highly decorative. They have been fully restored and are found in amazing condition.

Mattia Bonetti was born in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1952, and trained at the Centro Scolastico Industrie Artistiche in Lugano. He moved to Paris in 1972 and worked as a style consultant, textile designer and art photographer before turning to designing furniture in 1979 with Elisabeth Garouste. His work covers a large spectrum, from award-winning furniture design to interior design projects. In 1987 he developed the logo and visual character of Christian Lacroix, including their showroom and boutiques. 2009 was probably his most prolific year, with the complete redesign of the Hotel Cristal in Paris Champs Elysées, and the redesign of the Mark Hotel in New York, partnering with Jacques Grange.

Dimensions :

Width : 35 cm
Depth : 45 cm
Height : 168 cm

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1037/6236/2709/files/Mattia_Bonetti_pair_of_tall_patinated_metal_wall_lights_sconces_2009_1.jpg?v=1775723201
niek-hiemstra-a-telescopic-wall-lamp
Niek Hiemstra, Telescopic Wall Lamp

Niek Hiemstra for Hiemstra Evolux

Country: Netherlands

Period: 1960s

Condition: Very good

Dimensions: W: 21cm / D: 96cm / H: 65cm

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1037/6236/2709/files/modest.furniture_vintage_2810-Hiemstra-Evolux-telescopic-wall-lamp.01.jpg?v=1775723254
counterbalancing-wall-light-by-arlus-circa-1960
Arlus, Counterbalanced Wall Light, circa 1960

Maison Arlus, Arlus

Jolie applique à contrebalancier et réglable par la maison arlus,

Dimensions: Height: 36.23 in (92 cm), Width: 41.34 in (105 cm), Depth: 3.94 in (10 cm)

Materials: Brass, Lacquer, Metal, Plastic

Style: Modern

Origin: France

Period: 1960-1969

Condition: Good, Wear consistent with age and use.

Arlus, Maison Arlus

Paire d’appliques par la maison Armus, modèle arborescence probablement d’après un dessin de Felix Agostini.

Il manque les abats jours en opaline mais nous pouvons en retrouver sur demande.

Dimensions: Height: 14.18 in (36 cm), Width: 10.83 in (27.5 cm), Depth: 5.12 in (13 cm)

Materials: Bronze

Style: Modern

Origin: France

Period: 1970-1979

Condition: Good, Wear consistent with age and use.

Wim Rietveld for Gispen

Country: Netherlands

Period: 1950s

Condition: Good

Dimensions: W: 40cm / D: 105cm / H: 60cm

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1037/6236/2709/files/Panama-Wall-Lamp-Wim-Rietveld-Gispen-1-scaled.jpg?v=1785632442
